2016年11月1日周二上午8:00，中南大学材料学院青年科协联合院研究生会举办的青年学术沙龙第184场在科北106教室顺利举行，本次学术沙龙的主讲人为瑞士苏黎世联邦工学院的Manfred. Roth博士，材料科学与工程学院刘立斌教授等师生到场参加。

报告会分为两部分，第一部分题目为“High temperature materials”，Manfred. Roth博士从以下几个方面进行了阐述，（1）金属中蠕变过程的特性，（2）蠕变测试评估，（3）蠕变形成的机制，（4）通过颗粒硬化增加蠕变抗性，（5）蠕变断裂；Roth博士首先讲解蠕变基础理论，并引入涡轮引擎叶片和滑冰鞋作为案例进行分析，并结合纯铁的蠕变曲线进行剖析；第二部分题目为“Processing of single crystals”，M.Roth博士先后讲解了蠕变损伤和蠕变断裂，颗粒结构，热疲劳以及定向凝固铸造。M.Roth博士列举了燃气涡轮机为例进行讲解，最后总结了单晶的一些优势方面。报告结束后，Manfred. Roth博士与在场师生进行了热情的交流，细心回答同学们提出的问题，全场掌声热烈不断。
