2015年11月16日至11月20日，瑞士苏黎世联邦工学院的Manfred. Roth博士应材料学院江勇教授的邀请到特冶楼229学术活动室为研究生开设“先进材料技术”系列讲座。
2015年11月19日上午9:00-10:30，中南大学材料学院青年科协联合院研究生会举办的青年学术沙龙第145场在特冶楼229学术活动室顺利举行。本次讲座的题目是“Life-time extension of turbine blades by shot-peening”。Dr. Roth首先简短地向同学们介绍了自己，语言幽默，平易近人，短短几分钟就拉近了和同学们之间的距离。
Prof. Roth从介绍什么是喷丸加工开始，详细介绍了喷丸加工及其在涡轮叶片上的应用、耐心讲解了喷丸加工后，金属板残余应力的相关理论和模型、对涡轮叶片喷丸加工质量控制和预测、残余应力和裂纹扩展、残余应力的热力学状态等等阐述了材料科学以及关键材料技术与航空技术的关系。接下来他运用了“Fractured axle of chair-lift”的案例，不仅有专业方面的只是拓展，也向我们展示了如何发现问题和解决问题。整个讲座，Dr. Roth耐心引导学生，鼓励学生提出问题以及回答问题，气氛严肃又不失活泼。
