2016年10月31日周一上午9:00，中南大学材料学院青年科协联合院研究生会举办的青年学术沙龙第182场在化学楼210顺利举行，本次学术沙龙的主讲人为瑞士苏黎世联邦工学院的Manfred. Roth博士，材料科学与工程学院江勇、刘会群等师生到场参加。

报告会题目为“Aircraft Failures”，M.Roth博士通过讲解案例分析了疲劳原理，通过进行断口分析、微观组织研究以及力学性能测试等方法，主要讲解了客机的主起落架、军机的机翼保险销、飞机引擎的涡轮叶片、涡轮螺旋桨飞机和货船发动机悬置的螺栓中存在的疲劳断裂现象。M.Roth博士展示了很多典型断口的照片，通过提问的方式让学生主动去思考断口裂纹的扩展方向、断裂类型以及断裂发生的原因，如在讲解涡轮叶片出现疲劳断裂时，学生分析热气流下产生应力最大的部位并不是在断口处，因此断裂还受温度的影响，通过主动思考对问题有了更深刻的理解，互动过程中现场学生积极配合，现场气氛十分活跃。
